Comment on new Times comment blog

Author: Andrew Grant-Adamson Category: Blogs, Journalism, Online

Daniel Finkelstein’s new Comment Central blog at The Times is proving a useful and entertaining stopping-off spot to find out what is in the Times and in other places on the web. It is, in his words inevitably “idiosyncratic and selective” — and all the better for that.

The comment editor’s daily offerings are also a sign of how The Times is embracing the web but I am rather puzzled by Jeff Jarvis’s suggestion at Buzzmachine that it it is “far less ambitious that the competitive Guardian’s Comment is Free“. They seem to me to be very different animals.

Finkelstein’s brevity is welcome but it sometimes goes too far. I really like to have some idea where I will be taken if I click on a link, but I found myself hovering and looking at the bottom of the browser window to find out.

Take this post under the heading I like Bono but… which read: “This is very funny.” It leads to Tory bloger Iain Dale’s Diary: I think we should be told.
